Surely the evidence of great cooking lies in the fidelity of its clientele? Anyone who has numerous faithful customers must be in possession of the magic formula. Chef-owner Cédric Poncelet could barely hide a mysterious little smile when we asked him why folks keep returning to his beautiful, open kitchen. “Classic dishes with a light contemporary touch and respect for the produce,” he explained resolutely. And the fact that he practises what he preaches at reasonable prices could probably be added to his recipe for success.
His lunchtime three-course menu changes every two weeks and, costing just 25 €, draws a crowd towards 230a Koningslaan. For a supplement of 15 €, you get an aperitif, suitable wine and coffee. And to make sure that everyone’s happy, you have the choice of three starters and main dishes that always contain delicious ingredients. If you want to step up a culinary grade then you can choose either the Découverte menu or the Prestige menu. The ever-changing menu always has goose foie gras, Crab Royal and cod – strangely enough the chef’s favourites. Worth a special mention is the wine list, which gets better every year and offers bottles in all price categories.
